The history of almost all manufactured equipment, including vehicles, follows the same sad scenario. At first, we are glad that the new product will be released and we cherish any hopes, even ghostly ones. Then we use it for more than one year. After that, it becomes pretty boring and it's time to change the product to a new one. What happens next? - difficult to trace. Buses migrate from more developed countries to the markets of less developed countries, where the cycle is partially repeated, and only then they can be found occasionally in remote areas of the region or on films. In some cases, pleasant moments of life were produced - meeting people, preparing for the upcoming exams in an extra-fast mode and other fond memories. And while some noisy "carts" go for processing, others rot at various parking lots.
I would like to say a few words about the company itself, which in fact has not existed for about 90 years.
Bedford was a subsidiary of Vauxhall Motors. The date of its foundation is considered to be 1930. The main activity of the company was the production of machines. For several years, the plant has been the leaders in the assembly of trucks around the globe.
One of the first more or less running cars of the company is the Bedford WHG truck with an open body. It was produced from 31 to 1939 inclusive. The first bus from the company was released already in the 32nd year of the 21st century. It was a Bedford WLB model. It is worth noting that the design of the vehicles was very different. The company was doing well both during the Second World War and after it. But by the 80s, the company's position was greatly shaken. Having put an emphasis on the production of high-level trucks, they could not meet the expectations of industrial enterprises with the new products produced. The developed light vehicles were drowning from the capacities of competitors. In 1986 merged with Isuzu. As a result of the merger, the company lost the right to produce cars under its own initials, with the exception of some existing lines. In 1988, Isuzu was bought by General Motors Corporation, after which it was changed to GMM Luton, and cars under the Bedford brand were never produced again. By the way, the company itself tried to enter the mobile real estate market and produced campervans with motorhomes: Bedford HA Roma 1964-73; Bedford CF Camper 1969–80; Sleepers Bedford CF2 / 250 Clubman 1980–86 and others.
