Bova Futura buses from Holland are well known to intercity bus carriers. Bova received such a body shape back in 1980 - and only now, thirty years later, a new model appeared.
It is no longer called Bova Futura, but VDL Futura (since 2003, the company belongs to the Belgian association VDL). The design is unusual and aggressive: no one has ever had such headlights and taillights! The driver's workplace is made "according to passenger standards" and is also completely original - including the steering wheel and joystick of an automated transmission. The gearbox itself is the ZF AS-Tronic model popular in Europe, and the engines are supplied by DAF: these are PACCAR PR or MX with 361, 410 or 460 hp. (for the largest version).
According to the developers, the new Futura runs smoothly and quietly, "like a limousine", thanks to air bellows with electronic pressure control, independent front suspension and a "silent" ZF drive axle with anti-roll bar. The braking system is "electronic" with the ESP stabilization system.
Among the features of the salon is a completely flat floor without podiums, on which the seats are usually placed: this allows you to vary the layout at the request of the customer. The option "2 + 1" is also possible (on one side of the aisle there are two seats, on the other - one), as in the "five-star" Neoplan liners.
The new Futura will be available in four lengths: 12.2 and 12.9 m for two-axle variants, 13.1 and 14.8 m for three-axle variants. The buses will be assembled from pre-prepared modules (platform, side panels, roof and end parts).
