There are a significant number of companies in the Spanish passenger vehicle market. Most of the companies specialize in the production of bus bodies, which are successfully completed with chassis, engines, gearboxes and other mechanisms of independent manufacturers. As a result, customers have the opportunity to purchase equipment with a wide range of positive characteristics: reliability, comfort, safety, economical fuel consumption, etc. Irizar is the leading company in Spain. A company with a rich history offers a fairly extensive list of models.
At the moment, the buses of the Spanish company Irizar have two lines of manufactured models:
• Century - for the tourist class. The series has been produced since 1991 (the bus was first presented to the press in July 1990). The third generation of the Century is currently being produced. The body of the Century fully meets all modern safety and comfort requirements. It is made according to a modular method and allows to receive buses 8, 9 or 12 m long with one or two hinged side doors with a total capacity of up to 55 passengers and the number of seats 32–37. Century bodies of various lengths and configurations were usually installed on the chassis of Scania, Mercedes-Benz, MAN, Volvo, IVECO, DAF. In 2000 the company expected to produce 2,000 bodies, including 1,400 in Spain. They are exported to 45 countries.
• Inter Century - for intercity class. The series has been manufactured since 1991 and has 14 basic models, with lengths from 9 to 15 meters. The Century body is recognized as one of the most successful in the world. Since 2004, the new model New Century (third generation) has been produced, which is more attractive thanks to the teardrop head lighting technology and a more fashionable design. The new body, with more streamlined front and rear lines, should help lower fuel costs. The large windshield integrated by the A-pillars improves visibility for the driver and passengers.
Irizar Century passenger cars have been awarded many international awards and titles "Tourist Bus 1994 and 1997".
The main novelty of Irizar is the new PB body, for the four-year development and implementation of which the company has invested 18 million euros. It was first shown at the Hanover Motor Show in the fall of 2002, and a year later the 44-seater Scania Irizar PB touring car received the title "Bus of the Year 2004".
Today the company is actively developing buses with electric motors, electronic control systems and solutions for the effective management of transport organizations.
